Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) invites Applications for suitable and Qualified Niger Delta Indigents for its 2016/2017 Masters Program.

As part of our Human Resource Development initiatives, Niger Delta Development Commission NDDC, is commencing the 2016 Post-Graduate Foreign Scholarship Programme, to equip Niger Deltans with relevant training and skills for effective participation in the Local Content programme of the Federal Government, as well as compete globally in various professional fields.

2016 Post-Graduate Foreign Scholarship Programme (Masters)

Description
The Scheme is for suitably qualified applicants with relevant Bachelor's/Master's Degree from recognized Universities in the following professional disciplines:
  • Engineering
  • Medical Sciences (M.Sc. Public Health excluded)
  • Computer Science/Technology
  • Geology
  • Geosciences
  • Environmental Sciences
  • Agriculture
  • Environmental or Gas/Oil Law
  • Project Management
Application Requirements
  • First Degree with minimum of 2nd Class Lower Division for those wishing to undertake a Master's Degree programme and a good Master's Degree for PhD candidates from a recognized University.
  • Applicants must have gained admission for a Post Graduate Programme in any of the listed disciplines above, in a foreign University.
  • Applicants who have already enrolled in overseas' universities are NOT eligible to apply.
  • Guarantor's written consent of good conduct of the applicant from any of the following persons from the applicant's community/clan:
    • Member of National Assembly
    • Chairman of the LGA.
    • First class traditional ruler.
    • High Court Judge
  • Persons with evidence of cult membership or criminal record shall not be considered for the award.
  • Applicants must have completed the mandatory National Youth Service (NYSC).
  • Applicants must have a valid Admission Letter from a Foreign University.

Purpose of Job
  • To support the achievement of country plan objectives in Abuja and all Nigeria by delivering customer services.
  • To maintain them at the highest professional standards as set out in the British Council's EQS (Examination Quality Standards) and by the IELTS Partners.
Context and Environment
  • Customers and enquirers engage with the British Council Nigeria for a number of purposes with the majority being for examinations. Nigeria is the largest British Council exams business in the Sub Saharan Africa region. It administers exams in four subject areas: Schools, Professional/Vocational, and Educational on behalf of UK institutions and IELTS. In 2013-14 we will deliver roughly 75,000 exams to 25,000 candidates. The Nigerian team comprises 23 people; 15 are based in Lagos with 6 in Abuja and 5 in Port Harcourt.
  • The SSA region delivers exams in over 20 countries from its offices in 16 of these countries. In 2010, we delivered a quarter of a million exams to over 120k candidates. Growth in the region is robust, but our challenges are many. Nevertheless, Exams teams are making solid gains in our 4 strategic priority areas, namely: improving business performance, improving quality, improving financial compliance and increasing impact.
  • The post holder will be part of the team of 6 who administer the growing Exams business in Abuja ensuring quality and compliance as well as control of income and expenditure to deliver on target.
Accountabilities and Responsibilities(including people management and finance):
  • As Customer Services Officer the post holder will be line managed by the Exams Services Manager in Abuja
  • Quality: to deliver a high standard of customer service to our customers, schools and exams candidates. Performance is measured by our own Exams Quality Standards
  • All administrative procedures are in full compliance with examination board regulations and EQS standards.
  • Finance: all British Council standards for managing finances are met with relation to managing Purchase Orders, managing contracts and procurement.
Main Duties
To provide services that support all British Council customers and implement action points in the Nigeria Customer Service improvement strategy. This involves ensuring that:
  • Front desk is always manned during operational hours
  • Visitors are attended to immediately and appropriately
  • Phone enquiries answered within 45 seconds of first ring
  • Email enquiries are attended to promptly and escalated from regional email centre as per agreed service level agreement
  • Daily / weekly balanced reconciliations are completed and "parked" on the financial system and spreadsheet.
  • Complaints, comments and feedback are dealt with in accordance with corporate policy and the Exams Quality Standards.
  • Provide support/assistance to the Exams Team on all aspects of Customer Service
  • Use the E-Africa website as the single authoritative source of information for all enquiry handling
  • To provide administrative support in the delivery of workshops, seminars and any other project related services in line with Exams Quality Standards (EQS)
  • All service registration procedures (e.g. Exams, Certification and other programme registration) are fully understood and implemented to agreed standards.
  • Information about the full range of British Council products and services is clearly and confidently articulated to customers, encouraging customer engagement and cross-selling
  • To regularly attend staff meetings to both gain and impart knowledge about our customers, products and services
  • Regular communication and working is maintained with back-of-house teams

  • The Postgraduate Research Internship programme (which is different from the Students Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES) is aimed at providing opportunities for talented Nigerians to gain work experience and carry out topical research within Shell Exploration and Production Companies in Nigeria (SEPCiN).

  • Specialist Geology/Geoscience. (Biostratigraphy, Sequence Stratigraphy, Sedimentology, and Sedimentary Petrography),

Requirements

University of Benin Vacancy : Registrar

University of Benin currently seeks the applications of qualified individuals for the position of a Registrar as the five year term of the incumbent Registrar of the University of Benin will expire on 7th May, 2015. The Governing Council of the University at its meeting of 13th November, 2014 therefore approved that the position of Registrar, University of Benin be advertised. Duties of the Registrar
  • The Registrar is the Chief Administrative Officer of the University, responsible to the Vice Chancellor for the day to day administration of the University except for financial matters which fall within the purview of the Bursar. By virtue of the position, the Registrar is the statutory Secretary to Council, Senate, Congregation Convocation and the Committees of these bodies.
Qualities of the candidate
  • The candidate must be a person of impeccable integrity with the ability to command the respect and trust of both staff and students.
  • The candidate must possess drive, initiative and foresight and must understand the intricacies and complexities of the 21st Century higher educational institution.
  • The candidate must in addition be capable of articulating the vision of the University generally and be able to drive a vibrant Registry.
  • The candidate must be ot pleasant disposition with sound leadership qualities and must be of good physical and mental health.
  • The candidate shall submit a statement on his/her vision/mission for the University which should not be more than five hundred (500) words.
Qualifications
  • The Candidate should be a graduate from a recognized University with good honours degree in a relevant discipline preferably with additional qualification of at least, a Masters degree and not less than 15 years post-graduation experience, part of which must have been in the position of a Deputy Registrar in a Federal University.
  • Candidates must in addition be Information and Communication Technology (ICT) complaint, and should be under 60 years on appointment.
Conditions of Service:
  • As stipulated by the Universities (Miscellaneous Provisions) Amendment Act 2012, the Registrar shall hold office for a Single Term of five (5) years only, Notwithstanding this provision, Council may, upon satisfactory performance, extend the tenure of the Registrar for a further period of one (1) year only and thereafter the Registrar shall relinquish the post and be assigned to other duties in the University.
