The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), a regional group currently recruits for the position of  Accountant, in Financial Reporting. We are in fifteen West African countries. Founded on 28 May 1975, with the signing of the Treaty of Lagos, its mission is to promote economic integration across the region. Considered one of the pillars of the African Economic Community, the organization was founded in order to achieve collective self-sufficiency for its member states by creating a single large trading bloc through an economic and trading union. Job Description

The incumbent has responsibility for assisting with the development of financial policies and the execution of these policies as well as production of financial statements including the Income and Expenditure Statements, Balance Sheet, and other reports that may be required for management action.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • To analyze accounts and review/evaluate regular financial reports. Identify problem transactions and irregularities in related accounts, resolving them in a timely and effective manner.
  • To approve/Confirm that proposed obligations or expenditure for services, facilities supplies and equipment expenses, as well as those pertaining to personnel, are in accordance with the Financial Regulations and Rules of ECOWAS, relevant appropriations and staffing tables and corresponding approved allotments.
  • To ensure that accurate and complete accounting, reporting and internal control systems are functioning and that all relevant records are maintained.
  • To assist, prepare or consolidate financial statements for inclusion in ECOWAS Financial Statements to be audited. To provide information and respond to internal/external audit observations.
  • To provide advice and guidance concerning the ECOWAS' Financial Regulations and Rules and Accounting instructions.
  • Provide authoritative interpretation of requirements for handling transactions.
  • To coordinate and supervise the processing of Inter-Office transactions, Accounts Receivable, Applied Deposits, Bank Reconciliations, and various postings to Funds and General Ledgers.
  • To monitor, analyze, and approve transactions for entry into the accounting system.
  • To Keep abreast with and provide guidance on the ECOWAS related transactions to the Integrated Management Information System (IMIS) procedures, and any other ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) or financial system in use.
  • Assesses effectiveness of internal control mechanisms to identify methods for improved coordination and efficiency between interrelated financial management systems of the organization.
  • Define requirements and work with the divisions with respect to production of relevant financial reports.
  • Participate in the development of financial accounting policies.
  • Perform other related duties as required.
Qualifications/Experience/Skills

Educational Qualification

  • A first-level university degree in Accounting, Financial Management or any related field. A higher degree in the relevant field may substitute for two years of professional experience.
  • An accounting qualification by an internationally recognized accounting body such as ACCA (Association of Chartered Certified Accountants), ACA (Associate Chartered Accountant), CPA (Certified Public Accountant), CIMA (Chartered Institute of Management Accountants) would be an advantage.
Experience
  • A minimum of five years of progressively responsible professional experience in accounting and finance in private or public sector multinational organizations is required.
  • Experience in complex accounting operations including multicurrency transactions and consolidations, is desirable.
  • Experience in implementation of private sector or public sector accounting standards such as IFRS (International Financial Reporting Standards) or IPSAS is also desirable.

  • Computer Skills: This post requires proficiency in the use of the computer, including internet research, e-mail communications, word processing using the software currently in use, and the application of other software commonly used in the functional area.
Age
Candidate should not be 50 years old or over at the point of recruitment and must be a citizen of one of the ECOWAS member states.

Language

Must be fluent in one of the official languages of the Commission; English, French and Portuguese. A working knowledge of another would be an advantage.

Institute of Human Virology Nigeria (IHVN) Vacancy : Administrative Assistant - NAHSS

The Institute of Human Virology Nigeria (IHVN) was established in 2004 and we are now recruiting for the position of an Administrative Assistant - NAHSS . As a not-for-profit organization to address the HIV/AIDS crises in Nigeria through the development of infrastructure for treatment, care, prevention, and support for people living with and those affected by HIV/AIDS, cancer, tuberculosis, malaria and other diseases. It is also established to implement scale-up of the US President Emergency Fund for AID Relief (PEPFAR) program and conduct research and training to promote quality evidence-based health systems strengthening.

As a model local partner organization, it is also structured to maintain linkages with international and local organizations, especially the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), IHV-Baltimore and the University of Maryland and Global Funds for Tuberculosis, AIDS and Malaria, to promote capacity development and collaboration within the health sector in Nigeria. IHVN also conducts research and training in research methodologies and ethics intended to enhance the capacity of Nigeria to effectively mitigate HIV/AIDS,cancer, tuberculosis, malaria and other diseases.

The Nigerian Alliance for Health Systems Strengthening (NAHSS) is a CDC-funded project that supports building of Nigeria Health Systems' for sustainable impact. The University of Maryland-led project will support the Federal Ministry of Health to develop the National Quality Improvement program (NigeriaQual) and strengthen the capacity of local implementing partners, state multidisciplinary planning teams and site CQI Teams to integrate Quality Improvement activities into Organization, Financial and Program planning activities, in addition to HIV care and treatment services.

We are therefore looking for a competent professional to fill this position.


Job Title: Administrative Assistant

Location: Abuja

Supervisor: Project Director (NAHSS)

Basic Function:

Under the direction of Program Director and Program Manager, the Administrative Assistant will be responsible for the provision of administrative and logistical support services to the NAHSS team

Duties and responsibilities:

    Notify NAHSS partners and relevant stakeholders of upcoming meetings as requested by the office through emails or phone calls.
    Arrange travel logistics for NAHSS staff, consultants and training participants including hotel reservations and where required, arranging airport and hotel pick-ups.
    Serve as point of contact for logistical and administrative needs in the office.
    Make catering arrangements for meetings and reserve accommodation for participants where necessary.
    Coordinate staff meetings, set up conference rooms and meeting room, ordering and setting up audio-visual equipment and agendas, take minutes of meetings and write reports as requested, file records of all meetings.
    Coordinates all administrative and secretarial support services for the NAHSS office (as relevant).
    Records minutes of staff meetings and circulates same amongst the staff and meeting attendees
    Assists with production of presentation materials for staff members.
    Perform office equipment tasks such as making needed arrangement for services for telephone and e-mail, obtaining quotations for required services, arranging for repairs of office equipment.
    Collate and file quarterly, monthly and weekly reports
    Collate and harmonize quarterly and monthly work plans
    Make travel arrangements as requested by NAHSS staff and facilitate retirement of trips by staff
    Order/pick up supplies for the Office of the NAHSS
    Coordinate interviews and facilitate reimbursement of transportation for participants
    Tracking of NAHSS work plans and activities
    Support trainings to give administrative support
    Performs any other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, skills and abilities:

    Knowledge of general office practices and administrative procedures.
    Report to supervisor on variances and status on regular basis.
    Resourceful in gathering and providing information.
    Ability to develop and manage an office schedule
    Knowledge of budget preparation and monitoring.
    Excellent written, oral, interpersonal and organization skills.
    Ability to work well with others and to develop and maintain compatibility among project staff, subcontractors and recipients of assistance.
    Excellent computer skills, including knowledge of Microsoft office products.
    Typing skills.

Qualifications and requirements:

    University degree in Accounting, Finance or Business administration
    Experience with administrative and secretarial skills
    Experience with large complex organization is required, familiarity with international NGOs preferred

The Nigerian Communications Act, Part 2 – Establishment of the Governing Board and its Membership outlines the condition and criteria for the appointment of Commissioners (Executive and non-Executive).
Accordingly, Section 7(1) states that Commissioners shall be persons of recognized standing, qualification and experience in one or more of the following fields;

The Commissions also absorbs students on Students Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES) from various tertiary institutions.

Aptitude tests are conducted for intended NYSC and SIWES members; absorption is based on availability of space and the result of the aptitude test conducted.
